Anna Dello Russo is a Mouse?

Well next week I will have my first examinations so everything is quite hectic around here. I still check out different blogs and websites every morning before I start working. Just to keep up with everything new. Posting however isn't really an option. Which is a pity really, because there is soo much to share. The cruise collections, the CFDA awards, new ad campaigns... In 3 weeks I will be able to catch up with my blog again. Hopefully there will be lots of exciting things to share with you by then.

Just to remind you all that I'm still alive, this quick funny interview I read at annadellorusso.com. You see, it's not because I'm very tired and busy that I stop ADR'ing.

“Beyond the clothes is a very insecure girl. In a good way. I am anxious and also very fragile. Most fragile women try to force all their paranoia and insecurities. In a good way. It’s like, if you live a very hectic lifestyle, you paint your life, you paint your room, you paint yourself to feel better, to feel courage than be like a mouse.” The phone line crackles with laughter. “You can use that as the headline, ‘Anna Dello Russo is a mouse’.”

The Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala 2011.

Yesterday evening Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg addressed a crowd of over 800 guests with the following: “London might have the royal wedding, but we have this.”, “And this ticket is harder to get.”, “And never mind the Oscars, this is the international best-dressed convergence of the year.” Well that is exactly what the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala was. As the Vogue website stated, the gods really do still walk amongst us.

The gala—a mix of beautiful reverie and high culture—was this year celebrating the opening of the new exhibition “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty”—a look at the life and work of the visionary designer.”

“Savage Beauty, an exhibition devoted to the British designer, set his often incendiary oeuvre against a lyrical, emotionally charged backdrop, including a replica of a 30-foot oak tree in the Great Hall, reminiscent of those on McQueen's property in Sussex, England.”

Apparently the museum was redecorated into a beautiful and romantic English garden, covered in wildflowers, garden roses, towering trees and hedges that were popping up in the hall. The guests were summoned to the dinner that included artichoke, poached quail eggs, American caviar, Highland beef, and spring vegetables to the sound of bagpipes. Florence and the Machine held a special performance after dinner. The night ended at the new, not yet opened, hot spot, Crown at the Upper East Side.

Designers attending included: Tom Ford, Stefano Pilati, Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino Garavani, Riccardo Tisci, Olivier Theyskens, Alexander Wang, Tommy Hilfiger, Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Peter Dundas, Giambattista Valli, Christopher Bailey, Oscar de la Renta, Calvin Klein

Initially I felt like I would select some looks and comment on them, but now that I have chosen 48 looks from the 131 pictures on style.com I think it’s best if I keep my opinion to myself (well obviously I’m going to discuss the outfits with my lady), I believe it would affect the sheer grandeur that oozes from this glorious designs. Everybody is entitled to his/her opinion, so I’ll let you all decide for yourselves what outfits you like.

I based my selection on the reactions it provoked in me. Some of these designs I find simply breathtaking and therefore they are my favorite looks. Some just struck my notice because I liked the silhouette, the fabrics, motives, details, the fashion-is-fun-feeling they generated. Some I included because I just couldn’t skip the person…Basically there’s always a reason.

J'ADR: ADR' Fashion shower.

Anna Dello Russo was recently asked to join a programme called Pinocchio on an Italian radio channel, Radio Deejay. Every friday she goes live at 6 o’clock (PM) with fashion tips and rules. On her website I found this great video clip “Fashion Shower – Anna Dello Russo for Radio Deejay”, that was recorded in her Milano apartment. It’s really entertaining and very funny. I love it when she says: Fashion is always uncomfortable (a belief she has expressed before), when you get comfortable, you never get the look.

You need a fashion shower! Why? Because I love it!

A quick reminder: On the second of may the Met costume institute gala will take place. It's an absolute highlight in the fashion business bringing together designers, editors, models, stylists and celebrities, so I believe it will bring about some splendid outfit pictures. I'm very curious myself to see all the beautiful designs, and I cannot wait to share them with you, so stay tuned!

J'ADR: When Tommy met Anna, the pictures!

I'm still very busy but nevertheless I'll quickly show you all some pictures of this fantastic exhibition "When Tommy met Anna" at the Hudson's Bay Company in Toronto that I recently talked about. The main theme is obviously about "fun in fashion!", a very valuable style lesson, as we have all learned from Anna (uptight and pompous is very unfashionable!). I particularly love the "making a scene-picture". More photos can be found at http://www.annadellorusso.com/ and be sure to check out Anna's appearance on the MARYLIN DENIS SHOW. You will find a link on the ADR website. Never forget: VISIT ANNA DELLO RUSSO'S WEBSITE EVERY DAY!
