A Visit to the Edris House to Benefit our New Animal Shelter

On Saturday I attended an event to benefit the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, which is building a much-needed new, larger facility here in Palm Springs. The event was held at a private home, known as the Edris House, an historic Mid-Century Modern home nestled in the hillside overlooking Palm Springs. Built in 1954 and designed by famed architect, E. Stewart Williams, the structure is regarded as an excellent example of modern period homes in the desert.

The current owner opened his home up to host the fundraiser, so the house itself was an added draw to donors. Like most cities, Palm Springs has an overpopulation of animals in need of adoption. There are so many great dogs and cats at shelters. Animal lovers from across our fair city turned out to help raise money to fund this new shelter, set to open late summer of 2011. Once the shelter opens, I'll post some photos here on the blog. But for this post, I thought I'd just share a few photos from around the home. It is the classic desert lifestyle I love and enjoy everyday.

I could have stayed all day, but soon it was time to go!

I've mentioned it several times over the years, but the Palm Springs community has a very active "season" of tourists, part-time residents and annual events. But we also host an amazing array of philanthropic events from the months of November through May. In just seven months, there are over 300 different charitable fundraiser events for non-profit organizations. Part of this has to do with the demographics of both full-time and part-time residents; who are at a stage of life with large fortunes and want to give back a bit. It really is amazing to participate or attend these events to see first hand how generous people can be. I was so pleased to see the turn out at this event and hope people continue to show their generosity to our shelter. If you want to make a donation to our shelter, visit their website to donate. You can also mail a donation to:

The greeting will certainly move her to an understanding that she is still loved by them and keep her  from further controversy. Lohan said, "But I am not a kid anymore. I am 24. Lindsay Lohan
The flourishing American actress, pop singer and model Lindsay Lohan has just a few hours ago got out of jail on USD 75,00 bond. She got the bail after
she was sentenced to jail by a judge. Actually recently she  is falling in the trap of strict laws again and again. She was waiting to accept her punishment of 120 days jail sentence and for all of that she is very fed up with what not. The 24 years Mean Girls star was charged with probation violation by a judge in Los Angeles on April 22, 2011 and ordered back to jail for a fourth time. Moreover she is also ordered to do 400 hours of community service as she did not pleaded to a misdemeanor charge relating to the theft case of a necklace from a California jewellery store in January, 2011. The judge decided the accusation constituted a violation of her probation stemming from a 2007 Dui charge and Lohan was booked into a California jail before being freed on bail to appeal the sentence. She is very much worried about her career and looking forward to getting her pace back with number of films she opts to start. Her friend and producer Nathan Folks said "she is fine. Obviously, she is upset about (being sentenced to four months in jail)... She is angry because she has been working so hard on turning her life around. She didn't do what they said she did. She didn't steal that necklace." "She is ready to do her time. She wants to go to A.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous) and N.A. (Narcotics Anonymous) and to serve her 400 hours (of community service). She has already been doing lots of charity work," adds Folks. She was really a trying to recover herself after getting out of court ordered rehab center by attending drink and drugs.

Easter Sunrise Service at the Top of the Tram

Happy Easter! This morning consisted of an early morning ride up to the top of San Jacinto Mountain on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Amid darkness, I caught the 4:30 AM tram and in just 10 minutes I was at the top. You see, I had been planning to attend the Easter Sunrise Service at the top of our beautiful mountain, 10,000 feet high. In all the years I've lived here, I've never done it before, so this was the year! It was a non-denominational Christian service of hymns, a sermon and some time for prayer, all in time for dawn to break. When the service had concluded, everyone walked outside to view the sunrise. With the choir still singing, the outdoor speakers carried "Amazing Grace" to the peaks of Mount San Jacinto. These were the views I saw:

back inside the station, I saw the lily plants I had missed earlier, in the darkness

the ride back down the tram seemed especially beautiful this Easter morning

I'm really glad I awakened so early to participate in the sunrise service, it was special and memorable. Back at home, my own Easter Lilly plant was in full bloom, which made me smile. I love the smell of lilies in bloom. I sat down and took a few moments to reflect on the sermon earlier. I wish you all the blessings of Easter, to you and your family.

And now, its time to enjoy my Easter Cream Eggs!

Magnum Karl!

I know I haven't exactly updated much the last couple of days, but there's a reason. I'm soo extremely busy with all my work for University and frankly there's not much going on in fashion-wonderland either. The combination of these two makes it less attractive to post things. Nonetheless I will talk about ice cream today. In Europe we have this well known popsicle-like ice cream covered in chocolate called Magnum (by Ola) that comes in many flavours (not that I would really know because I don't like ice cream), but apparently it is not available in the USA (obviously these sort of ice creams are also available in the United States, but they are distributed by other brands like Häagen Dazs)
Nevertheless Magnum's are about to be introduced in a very attractive and stylish manner. This ice cream icon will be accompanied by a set of 3 short movies directed by Karl Lagerfeld, featuring Rachel Bilson and Baptiste Giabiconi (that is why he's not featured in the Coca Cola ad's?!). Karl Lagerfeld and Rachel Bilson (in fact Anna Wintour as well) came to promote their collaboration at the Tribeca Film Festival. The latest creations of his inventive genius mind premiered at the Festival. I'm gonna give you all a behind the scenes clip (with Karl explaining the concept) and the first aired Magnum commercial. Up to you to judge if it's ever so enjoyable and delicious...

An Eastertime Heavenly Pie

Easter is probably my favorite time of the year. Even when I was a kid, it was always my favorite. Perhaps it is the change of season, bright Spring weather. Or perhaps the wonderful church Hymns of Eastertide. (I'm sure the cream eggs, jelly beans and chocolate bunnies had nothing to do with it!). I also have fond memories of delicious baked goods made by my family. A few years ago I wrote about my great-grandmother's rice pie. These days I can't resist the urge to do some baking when Easter rolls around. Last night when I returned home from work, I decided to make a 'Heavenly Pie', a favorite from my childhood. Heavenly Pie is nothing more than a Meringue crust, crushed fresh pineapple, topped by fresh whipped cream. And that's all- but it is so refreshing. I forgot to take a photo before I dove into it, so I tried to take this picture from the other side- but you get the idea. What do you like to make for Easter?

Hunger Strike Brings Mexican Girl to Royal Wedding

A Mexican girl succeeded to go London to attend Royal Wedding.

A Mexican girl has at last succeeded in getting a chance to attend the upcoming royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. But this was not before her lunatic effort. She has been hunger striking for 16 days in front of British Embassy in Mexico. Yisidi Ba Rhys Hugo Chavez picked up tents outside the embassy, claiming would never give up until the last moment. Chavez said, "like my mother, I grew up as Princess Diana’s fans. I have promised to myself, I must attend the next British royal wedding.” This 19 years old girl did not give in and was reluctant to leave the place. She said, "The embassy could talk to Britain for me but they haven't. But I'm going to stay here until I can't go on." She also said that this invitation card can compensate the British broadcasting corporation fans camp programs by Mexican insult. This program has called the Mexicans “lazy weak and emptiness conceit”. Mexico’s ambassador to London told British Broadcasting Corporation complaints. The BBC’s response was made that this program in the United States before broadcast; they will cut and delete this paragraph of comment. Throughout the campaign she took nothing but water and lost 13 lbs weight and in return earned the name "embassy lunatic"
It is also said that she was doing all for her love for mother. As her mother loved late Prince Diana, she also would love to do the same.

Striking Mexican Girl
Chevez was lucky to meet  Octavio Fitch Lazo, a member of an association that is lobbying Mexico's congress to adopt silver coinage. Mr. Fitch later contacted her and said he would lend her the money and book her flight. He said, "It moved me to see that no one understood her very well ... I think she is right to fight for what she wants."
She is carrying an oil painting of the couple in hopes that she will be able to present the Royal Groom and Bride with her painting.
