The Met Costume Institute Gala: McQueen, Savage Beauty.

Yesterday I was browsing through the many blogs I keep in “my favourites-list”. At the Anna Dello Russo website I stumbled upon something that instantly made me very happy. The annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala will be back to celebrate an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to Alexander McQueen (Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty) on the second of May 2011. What’s so special about that night? For starters, it’s bigger than the Oscars. Bryan Boy tweeted: “I think the Met Ball is more glamourous than the Oscars!” I believe that to be the truth. Second, it’s a vogue’s special night out, promoted by Anna Wintour herself. Third, Anna Wintour, Colin Firth and Stella McCartney will be chairing the event with this year’s honorary chairs, François-Henri Pinault and his wife Salma Hayek (that’s why she’s been wearing so much McQueen.). Fourth, Anna Dello Russo received an invitation for the very first time, so we are sure she will lighten up the already glamourous party even more. Fifth, many designers accompanied by celebrities and models will show up looking their absolute best. I will definitely cover and show you many red carpet looks in the days following the gala event.

The exhibit itself will run from May 4th till July 31st 2011. 100 Pieces from his 19-year career, drawn from the London McQueen archives, The Paris Givenchy archives and other Private Collections (For instance, Isabelle Blow’s wardrobe, now owned entirely by Daphne Guinness) will be shown. It will cover McQueen’s work from his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection 1992 up to his final runway presentation in February 2010.

1. A BBC interview with Anna Wintour talking about the exhibition:

2. Anna Dello Russo’s top 10 NY Met Gala Ball rules:

"When I received the invitation
for the MET GALA on May 2, 2011
at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art in New York City,
special evening sponsored by
Ms. ANNA WINTOUR
and this year's honorary chairs,
Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek,
to celebrate extraordinary exhibition
dedicated to ALEXANDER MCQUEEN,
I had a huge emotion.

It's the first time that I will participate
at this extraordinary event.

So I immediately wrote my TOP 10 rules:

1. It's Prohibited choose the wrong OUTFIT.
Look and look again hundred thousand times
all the shows on Vogue.com.

2. Opt for the HAUTE COUTURE.
You only live once!

3. For at least a month before, prepare your
BODY with an iron DETOX discipline and
a daily TRAINING.
You must be radiant!

4. Choose a long evening GOWN.
Unless you don't have the Giselle's body
not wear a short dress!

5. Put some beautiful SHOES with which
walk straight and FIERCE.
Your legs cannot wobbling over
HELLS exceeding 11 cm.

6. MAKEUP and HAIR:
Here you can exaggerate!
You have to invent a character,
you'll transform into another woman,
give her another name
and you'll feel more SECURE.

7. Strictly: JEWEL-CLUTCH in hand.

8. Leave your WATCH at home, even if precious,
cause it may be unkind to those who invited you.

9.
Rigorously forbidden to take iPhone pics
at VIP'S and CELEBS!

10. When you get to that very long,
dreadful RED CARPET,
take a deep breath and SMILE."
Anna"
